All the Pokemon Missing from the Game as of January 2019

Pokemon GO has remained one of the most popular mobile games available, making nearly $1 billion in 2018 thanks to a dedicated community and frequent updates from Niantic. However, even with all of the game’s updates, there are still some Pokemon that have yet to be added, including Pokemon from as far back as Gen 2.

Here are all the Pokemon currently missing from Pokemon GO.

Generation 2 – Johto Region

With the addition of the Celebi Special Research quest, there is only one Pokemon still missing from Pokemon GO that is keeping players from being able to complete their Johto region Pokedex. That Pokemon is #235 Smeargle, with many theorizing that Niantic hasn』t added the creature yet due to its unique 「Sketch」 attack that allows it to copy the moves of other Pokemon. While Smeargle still isn』t the game as of the time of this writing, datamining efforts have found evidence that it will be added at some point in the near future.

Generation 3 – Hoenn Region

Pokemon GO is still missing Pokedex #357 Kecleon, but it was kind of added to the game last fall. Perhaps due to a glitch (or purposefully on the part of Niantic), some Pokemon GO players were able to find Kecleon out in the wild, but when they caught it, it just transformed into a Ditto.

Meanwhile, Pokemon GO is still missing Pokedex #366, 367, and 368, which are Clamperl, Huntail, and Gorebyss, respectively. Clamperl’s absence may be explained by the fact that it is found at the bottom of the ocean, and it needs a special evolution item to evolve into Huntail and Gorebyss. However, dataminers have found evidence that Huntail is coming to the game, so perhaps Clamperl will be added to Pokemon GO sooner rather than later.

The mythical Pokemon Jirachi still has yet to be added to Pokemon GO as well, but will probably debut as part of a Special Research quest some time in the future.

Generation 4 – Sinnoh Region

Besides the Pokemon listed here, there are additional Pokemon still missing from Pokemon GO in the form of the entire 5th, 6th, and 7th generations. It’s possible that Pokemon from future generations will be added to Pokemon GO in 2019, but before then, Niantic has plenty of Gen 4 Pokemon it still needs to add, as well as a handful of Gen 2 and Gen 3 creatures.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
